Description

Dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson released his acclaimed album Bass Culture in 1980 through Island Records. The Jamaican-born, UK-based artist produced the record in collaboration with Dennis Bovell (credited as Blackbeard). The album’s distinct sound was heavily shaped by members of the British reggae band Matumbi, including Bovell, drummer Lloyd “Jah Bunny” Donaldson, and keyboardist Webster Johnson.
